In a move that underscores their belief in his potential and versatility, the Cincinnati Reds have signed center fielder Nick Senzel to a 2-year, $11 million contract extension. The deal includes performance incentives that could raise its total value to $15 million and keeps the former No. 2 overall pick in Cincinnati through the 2027 season.
Senzel, 29, was a free agent entering the 2025 campaign after several up-and-down years plagued by injuries and position shuffling. But the Reds have remained committed to unlocking his potential, citing his defensive versatility and competitive fire as key reasons for bringing him back.
“Nick has overcome a lot and shown us he still has the ability to impact the game every day,” said Reds President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall. “We believe his best baseball is still ahead, and we’re excited to keep him in Cincinnati.”
The former Tennessee standout was originally drafted as an infielder but has since evolved into a utility weapon, spending time in center field, third base, second base, and left field. In 2024, Senzel quietly posted his most consistent season to date, slashing .260/.335/.410 with 12 home runs and 18 stolen bases across 110 games.

The extension gives the Reds some veteran stability as they continue developing their young core, while also giving Senzel a renewed opportunity to prove he belongs as an everyday contributor.
“I’m thankful for this opportunity and the faith the Reds have shown in me,” Senzel said. “Cincinnati is the only place I’ve ever known in pro ball — it feels like home, and I’m ready to keep competing for this city.”
