Rising Star Delivers Hitless Masterclass, Clinches Low-A Pitcher of the Week Honors in Unstoppable Fashion

Randel Clemente, a promising arm in the St. Louis Cardinals’ farm system, has earned the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week award after a dominant showing for the Palm Beach Cardinals.

The right-hander tossed two flawless relief appearances against Clearwater, not allowing a single hit over four innings. He struck out six batters and issued just one walk—an encouraging sign given his previous struggles with control. Clemente’s standout performance continues a hot streak for Palm Beach prospects, following recent Player of the Week nods for infielders Cade McGee and Josh Kross.

Command has been Clemente’s biggest hurdle since joining the Cardinals organization. In 2024, he issued an alarming 50 walks across 48 innings split between the Florida Complex League and Palm Beach. However, early signs in 2025 suggest progress. Through 6.2 innings this season, he has walked just four while striking out nine, lowering his walk rate significantly despite a 6.75 ERA.

Now in his fourth year with the Cardinals after signing as an international free agent in 2020, Clemente has pitched 128 innings professionally. Known for his ability to generate swings and misses, refining his command will be the key to earning a promotion to High-A Peoria later this year.

The Palm Beach Cardinals return to action Tuesday with a six-game homestand against the Jupiter Hammerheads.
