South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley has officially filled the vacancy on her coaching staff. On Friday, the Gamecocks announced the hiring of Wendale Farrow as their new assistant coach.
Farrow, 37, arrives in Columbia after spending the past four seasons on staff at Southern Cal. He steps into the role left open by Winston Gandy, who recently accepted the head coaching job at Grand Canyon University.
“We truly hit the jackpot with Wendale,” Staley said in a statement. “He’s a well-rounded, accomplished coach who’s been deeply involved in all aspects of building successful programs. From strategy and player development to recruiting and community engagement, he brings the full package. We’re excited for the impact he’s going to have here in Columbia.”

Before joining USC, Farrow spent five seasons as an assistant at Cal and also had a one-year stint at Vanderbilt during the 2015-16 season. His coaching journey began at UCLA in 2013, where he worked as a video coordinator and in other support roles.
As a player, Farrow started his college career at American River College in California before transferring to Eastern Michigan to complete his final two seasons. After graduating in 2009, he remained at Eastern Michigan for two years as a graduate manager.
Farrow now brings over a decade of experience in collegiate basketball to a South Carolina program aiming to maintain its powerhouse status in women’s hoops.
