BLOCKBUSTER TRADE: Cincinnati Reds Sign Infielder Bryson Brigman to Minor League Deal

The Cincinnati Reds have signed infielder/outfielder Bryson Brigman to a minor league contract. The 29-year-old has been assigned to the Triple-A Louisville team.

Although Brigman may not stand out at first glance due to his age, his performance last season in Triple-A for the Arizona Diamondbacks shows potential. He posted an impressive .334/.383/.474 line in 2024, which included the highest batting average in Triple-A among players with at least 400 plate appearances.

Originally a third-round pick by Seattle in 2016, Brigman was traded to the Miami Marlins in 2018. He later signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022 and with Arizona in 2024. Despite his strong season in Triple-A last year, he was unable to secure a deal with any MLB team and ended up signing with the Mexican League’s Caliente de Durango in early February. However, he never played for them, as their regular season hadn’t started yet when the Reds swooped in and signed him away.

Brigman is known for his ability to make contact, with a 15.3% strikeout rate in Triple-A last year, ranking 27th out of 247 players with at least 300 plate appearances. Though not elite in speed, he’s shown solid base-stealing ability, reaching 20 steals in one season back in 2018. However, power isn’t his strength—his average exit velocity is just 84.3 MPH, and although he set career highs in home runs (9) and extra-base hits (30) in 2024, he’s not considered a power hitter.

Defensively, Brigman is versatile, with over 3,000 innings at shortstop and second base in the minors. In recent years, he’s also played in both left and right field.

This signing is a low-risk move, offering the Reds a depth option at Triple-A who demonstrated strong batting numbers in the previous season and is capable of playing multiple positions.
