Yankees Predict Diamondbacks Slugger to Fill Third Base Hole

April 10, 2025 | By Dylan Backer

The New York Yankees have powered their way through the start of the 2025 season, smashing an American League-best 26 home runs through the first 12 games. But even with a stacked lineup and Giancarlo Stanton still on the mend, one glaring issue remains — third base.

With Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza sharing the load at the hot corner, the Yankees are eyeing potential reinforcements. One name being predicted as a fit? Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez.

Suárez, a right-handed power threat, is off to a strong start in the National League, leading the league in home runs early in the season. Despite a low batting average, his track record is undeniable — 30 homers and 101 RBIs last season — and his pop could provide much-needed balance in a Yankees lineup currently leaning left.

His biggest drawback remains his strikeout rate, having led the AL in punchouts in 2022 and 2023. Still, his ability to stay healthy and produce runs makes him an appealing mid-season target.

Other potential names in the Yankees’ sights include Nolan Arenado, the perennial Gold Glove third baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals, and Yandy Díaz of the Tampa Bay Rays. While Arenado might be a more challenging acquisition, Díaz provides a versatile option at third base and could be a good complement to the Yankees’ needs.

With the Yankees’ front office known for bold moves, and the Diamondbacks potentially open to dealing, this prediction might not just be speculation — it could be the next big swing for the Bronx Bombers.
