BREAKING: Duke Bolsters Frontcourt with Proven Mid-Major Star in Game-Changing Transfer Portal Move

The Duke Blue Devils have officially landed Trey Townsend, the reigning Horizon League Player of the Year and Oakland standout, in a stunning transfer portal win that immediately upgrades Duke’s frontcourt.

Townsend, a 6-foot-6 senior, became a national name after leading Oakland to a thrilling March Madness run, including a first-round upset over Kentucky. He averaged 17.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists last season while shooting nearly 50% from the field.

Now, he’s bringing his skill, leadership, and toughness to Cameron Indoor.

“It’s Duke,” Townsend said in his official commitment post. “The culture, the expectations, the opportunity to win at the highest level—it was the perfect fit for this next chapter.”

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer called Townsend “one of the most complete and mature players in the portal.”
