A must-attend event for snowboarding enthusiasts is happening this Friday at the Colorado Snowsports Museum in Vail—and it’s all about honoring the legendary Craig Kelly. Bestselling author Eric Blehm will take the stage to discuss his groundbreaking new book, The Darkest White, a gripping deep dive into Kelly’s trailblazing career and the tragic avalanche that claimed his life in 2003.
What makes this night even more special? Blehm will be speaking right next to an exclusive exhibit dedicated to Kelly, featuring rare artifacts that shaped snowboarding history.
“Craig Kelly was the Shaun White of our era. There was nobody more synonymous with snowboarding,” Blehm said.

Blehm, a former TransWorld Snowboarding editor, shared a deep personal connection with Kelly, traveling the world with him before his passing. Writing The Darkest White became more than just storytelling—it was a mission to blend biography, investigative journalism, and snowboarding history into one unforgettable tribute.
Already earning praise from The New York Times and top publications, the book has made waves across the industry. But for Blehm, this Vail event is the one he’s been looking forward to the most.
“I can’t wait to share Craig’s story, introduce new fans to his impact, and give longtime followers a chance to pay tribute to their hero,” Blehm said. “Standing beside his boards and speaking about his legacy—it’s going to be powerful.”
Museum director Jen Mason emphasized the one-of-a-kind nature of the collection on display.
“Many collectors have incredible snowboard artifacts, but we have pivotal pieces that changed the sport forever,” Mason said. “Where else can you find the splitboard Craig Kelly was riding the day he died or a board Tom Sims crafted in high school?”
