HUGE BOOST: Yankees’ Brian Cashman Lands Dylan Cease in Blockbuster Trade With White Sox to Finalize Opening Day Roster

The New York Yankees have made a major move to solidify their pitching staff, acquiring right-hander Dylan Cease from the Chicago White Sox in a blockbuster trade. The deal, finalized just days before Opening Day, ensures the Yankees enter the season with a dominant rotation led by Cease and Gerrit Cole.

Cease, 28, has been one of the most electric arms in baseball, finishing as the AL Cy Young runner-up in 2022. With a mid-90s fastball and wipeout slider, he provides the Yankees with much-needed rotation depth following injuries and inconsistencies throughout spring training.

Trade Details:

The Yankees sent a package of prospects to Chicago, headlined by right-hander Will Warren and outfielder Everson Pereira. The White Sox also received infield prospect Jared Serna and right-handed pitcher Chase Hampton.

“This move puts us in the best possible position heading into the season,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. “Dylan Cease is an impact pitcher who will help us compete for a championship.”

Final Roster Moves Before Opening Day

With Cease in the fold, the Yankees’ rotation is set, but they may not be done dealing. The front office is still exploring bullpen upgrades and a right-handed bat to round out the roster before Thursday’s season opener.

Cease is expected to make his Yankees debut within the first week of the season, likely slotting in as the No. 2 starter behind Cole.
