The New York Giants have finally secured their potential franchise quarterback, selecting Alabama’s Jalen Milroe in the 2025 NFL Draft.
After an extensive search for a long-term answer at the position—including unsuccessful attempts to land veteran quarterbacks like Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers—the Giants have turned to the draft, placing their faith in the dynamic and athletic Milroe.
Why the Giants Chose Milroe
NFL analysts had long speculated that the Giants would draft a quarterback after parting ways with Daniel Jones, who now plays for the Colts. With top prospects Shedeur Sanders and Cameron Ward off the board, the Giants saw Milroe as a high-upside player who could develop into a star under head coach Brian Daboll.
Milroe brings a unique blend of athleticism and arm strength, which made him an intriguing choice for the Giants.
“On the surface, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe has a number of traits that it would be easy to see the Giants falling in love with,” wrote Chris Pflum of Big Blue View ahead of the draft.
Despite being raw in certain areas, Milroe’s elite athletic traits, strong work ethic, and powerful throwing arm made him a risk worth taking.
A High-Risk, High-Reward Pick
The Giants understand that Milroe is a work in progress, but his potential is undeniable.
“Milroe has the distinction of having the highest ceiling and lowest floor of any top quarterback prospect,” Pflum noted. “It’s a duality that’s sure to scare anyone with an aversion to risk, while also tantalizing anyone with a propensity to ask ‘what can he do?’”
With time to develop under Daboll’s system, the Giants hope they’ve found their next franchise quarterback—one they can truly “fall in love with.”
