Due to inappropriate behavior that went viral on social media, including staff members pushing their hips in students’ faces during workouts, two high school football coaches in Alabama have resigned.

Following their original placement on administrative leave, head coach Drew Gilmer and defensive coordinator Adam Helms resigned from their positions with the Hoover High School football team, the school system said on Thursday during a special meeting of the board of education.

One of the films, which WBRC was able to obtain, showed a coach shoving his hips into the face of a player who was lying on the ground while another coach had torn off the helmet of a different player after a drill tackle.

In the second video, a high school athlete was participating in a practice when a coach ran across the field and tore the player’s helmet off of their head.

“His ability as a coach on the playing field is unrelated to this. State Representative Juandalyn Givan (D-Jefferson) stated, “It has everything to do with what was depicted on the video in an instance that left pause and concern throughout, not just Alabama, but throughout the sports industry as a whole.”

In the second video, a high school player was seen falling to the ground and a coach was seen racing across the field during a practice, pulling off the guy’s helmet before tossing the helmet to the ground.

As stated in a release that WBRC was able to receive, “The past few days have been extremely unsettling for many of our varsity football players, coaches, and the overall Hoover Community.” Kevin Maddox is the superintendent of Hoover Schools. “Our primary priority remain the safety and well-being of our personnel and students.

“We continue to have high standards for both our staff and kids. Our current priorities include helping our football players and coaching personnel.

The 17-year-old athlete was allegedly “subjected to an experience no child should ever go through regardless of whether it’s on the field of play,” according to Givan, who is representing the players in the videos, AL.com said.

The squad’s temporary head coach will be Chip English, offensive coordinator, according to a district announcement made on Wednesday. The team will begin play in Miami, Florida, on August 24.

According to the Hoover Police Department, the incidents shown in the videos are being looked into.

A few of the team’s student-athletes expressed their support for the coaches following their placement on administrative leave.

“Coach Gilmer and Coach Helms are wonderful! Ask any player currently on the team. They’ve contributed greatly to the Hoover program and to us,” a student posted on social media.”We need to be able to maintain him as our coach if the players desire it!
