Departure: Brian Kelly confirm the departure of a versatile TE away from Lsu

BATON ROUGE:On Tuesday, LSU football coach Brian Kelly informed the media that Mac Markway, a sophomore tight end, had left the team.

Kelly reported that on Monday night, after the team’s sixth preseason workout, Markway told the LSU coaching staff, “he was no longer going to play football at LSU.”

Kelly stated that he doesn’t know what Markway’s future plans entail, such as using the transfer site or quitting football.

“He’s made a decision he’s not going to play,” Kelly stated. “I don’t know what he plans are, whether he’s going to transfer but he told us last night that he’s not going to play at LSU anymore.”

Markway’s departure hurts depth at a position where there are just two other players with college experience, even though it has no effect on LSU’s starting lineup.

Leading into the 2024 season, junior Mason Taylor is one of the Tigers’ offensive talents, and high expectations are placed on him. Although he didn’t see the field at any significant time during his first season, sophomore Ka’Morreun Pimpton did log some snaps for LSU last year.

Update on LSU football receiver Zavion Thomas

Zavion Thomas, a wide receiver, has spent the majority of the last two days of practice working off the side.

The junior wide receiver has been suffering from a hamstring strain, Kelly informed reporters on Tuesday, but the coach doesn’t think it’s a serious problem.

“We feel like he’s going to be a guy that’s going to be an important player for us,” Kelly stated. “We don’t want anything lingering, so we’ve just been very careful with him.”

LSU football defensive linemen Bradyn Swinson, Jalen Lee

Bradyn Swinson and Jalen Lee, two of LSU’s defensive linemen, haven’t practiced since they’ve been finishing up a summer Spanish course.

Kelly reported that despite missing practices, the two have been permitted to work out in the football facilities in the afternoons. The LSU coach stated that both Lee and Swinson should be qualified to graduate upon finishing the course work. The class is expected to end on Monday.
