American legend Stan Smith identifies Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as the ‘present and future of tennis’

Spanish tennis proAfter starting their paths to stardom, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have emerged as the latest male tennis superstars. Sinner won his first Grand Slam championship in 2024 at the Australian Open, but Alcaraz made history by winning Wimbledon and the French Open back-to-back.

Due to their dominance, American tennis great Stan Smith has praised the two as the “present and future of tennis.” Like everyone else, the 77-year-old is thrilled with Sinner and Alcaraz’s play and hopes to see more of them in the future. Smith said there will be a fierce rivalry between the two players.

Carlos is notable for his quickness, strength, and variety of shots. Sinner, who is currently ranked first in the world and has already won a Grand Slam, is another talented player. They will create an enduring rivalry since they embody both the past and the present of tennis. Considering that they still have space for improvement, I’m curious to see how their game has changed over time. Speaking with Italian publication Gazzetta, Stan Smith stated.

Smith, a two-time Grand Slam singles champion and former World No. 1 in the rankings, acknowledged that both players might yet do better.

Stan Smith talks about areas of improvement for Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

Stan Smith expressed his admiration for Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s tennis skills, but he also gave his thoughts on where the players still need to grow. Alcaraz can reduce his distractions, which occasionally seem to impact him, but Smith thinks the 77-year-old wants Sinner to get better at serving.

Smith made the observation that although though Sinner’s serves have improved, he still needs to put in a bit more effort. The former World No. 1 believes that the Italian’s volleys need to be improved.

Both of them are excellent players in my perspective, although Sinner still has a lot of improvement to make on his serve. Additionally, he has a great chance to get better at volleys. Carlos, on the other hand, occasionally experiences what I would call diversions. According to Stan Smith

Notably, throughout the last few months, Sinner and Alcaraz have been stomping all over the tour. The two have played so well together that they have defeated the all-time greatest men’s tennis player, Novak Djokovic. While Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in the Wimbledon final for the second year in a row, Sinner defeated him in the Australian Open quarterfinal this year.

Sinner and Alcaraz are having a fierce competition between them, with the Spaniard now leading. Alcaraz has won five of the nine games that have been played thus far.
