Yankees’ Aaron Judge joins exclusive list featuring Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds with insane heater
It may be necessary for Aaron Judge to adopt the name Superman.
Slugger Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees is in elite company as he continues to put up impressive video game scores this season. Judge is producing at the plate at a rate that Major League Baseball hasn’t seen since the days of Barry Bonds and Babe Ruth. According to ESPN, the Yankees slugger finished a 50-game streak with 25 home runs and a slash line of.398/.507/.937.
These are astonishing figures. With 32 home runs, Judge is the league leader in home runs. Before July 1, he had already eclipsed Babe Ruth as the Yankee with the most home runs in a season. While Ruth made it to 30 twice but no further by July, Judge reached 31 before then.
There is more to the numbers. Judge is now one of only four players in MLB history—along with Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Barry Bonds—to have an OPS above 1.430 over a 50-game timeframe. This is according to ESPN. The Yankees are the only team with 50 wins this season because to their batting. As of Sunday’s games, New York’s record stands at 55-36.
judge is leading the charge on offense
This season, Judge has served as the center of the Yankees’ offensive attack. With his baseball bat, he is spearheading the assault. New York is out to get revenge for its underwhelming 2023 campaign. Due of Judge’s struggles, the team finished 82-80 and missed the playoffs.
To assist Judge, the Yankees added Juan Soto from San Diego this offseason. The team has clicked since adding Soto, as Judge has once again regained his footing. After just three months, his offensive output has almost surpassed that of the previous campaign. Judge completed 2023 with 98 hits overall, 37 home runs, and 75 RBIs. He now has 100 hits overall, 32 home runs, and 83 RBIs in 2024. In July, hardly a week has passed since all of that.
Judge is aiming for a triple crown as well. Given that he leads MLB in home runs, RBIs, and batting average, he might actually succeed, according to ESPN. It would be difficult to argue against him winning Major League Baseball’s Most Valuable Player award this season, even if he is unable to achieve that achievement. In 2022, he was already named the American League MVP. Throughout his career, he also ended as the American League leader in home runs twice.
A World Series victory would be the cherry on top for Yankees fans who are undoubtedly having the best season in a long time. It won’t be simple, as a number of other teams—the Baltimore Orioles among them—are also enjoying outstanding seasons. However, Aaron Judge is not on those teams, and New York supporters understand how important he is to their team’s success.
Judge’s labors have not spared the Yankees from difficulty in recent weeks. Out of the last 19 games, the squad has lost 14. Due to Anthony Rizzo’s injury, things appear to be moving more slowly. Soto has fluctuated in and out of the starting lineup, while Gerrit Cole, the star, appears unmotivated following his elbow injury recovery. Judge has occasionally had to shoulder the majority of the weight alone, and that won’t be sufficient to guide the Yankees to victory.
Sunday’s game against the Yankees will see Judge try to build on his recent success. At 7:10 p.m. Eastern, the Boston Red Sox take on the Bronx Bombers.
