Jayson Tatum has signed a five-year, $314 million contract extension with the Boston Celtics, making him the highest-paid player in NBA history, according to a report from The Athletic on Monday.
This new deal will commence with the 2025-26 season and will keep the five-time All-Star in Boston through the 2029-30 season.
When finalized, Tatum’s supermax contract will be the largest in NBA history, surpassing the five-year, $304 million contract signed by his teammate Jaylen Brown last offseason.
Tatum, 26, is currently in the final years of a five-year, $163 million contract extension he signed with Boston in 2020. Under his new extension, he will earn $51.4 million next season, with his salary reaching $71.4 million in the final year, averaging $62.8 million annually.
Tatum averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, with a 47% shooting percentage from the field, earning All-NBA first-team honors for the third consecutive season. During the playoffs, he increased his averages to 25 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game, scoring over 30 points six times, including a 31-point performance in the championship-clinching Game 5 win over the Dallas Mavericks.
Tatum has been selected as an All-Star five times in his seven-year career. The Celtics drafted him with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
