Georgia football lands No. 1 Edge in massive 2025 recruiting boost
Gibson is a five-star player per On3 recruiting rankings. He is a 6-foot-3, 263 pound edge who will terrorize opposing quarterbacks in the SEC. He also considered USC before making his commitment.
“I have those relationships with Georgia,” Gibson said, per On3. “I am close to the coaching staff, it is a school close to home and I have relationships with the coaches and the team. That made a big difference for me.”
Gibson is actually a Georgia high school football player, so the Bulldogs were able to keep a player close to home. The team’s recent success certainly played a role in the commitment. The edge was seriously considering the Trojans, but Georgia stayed on him and was able to scoop up the commitment.
“With Georgia, anything is possible,” Gibson added. “Georgia is just a great place. The overall way that coach Smart runs the program, I feel like it is amazing. It’s remarkable, honestly.
“There is a lot I like about Georgia. I have always had them high on my list. They prepare you to be your best. Georgia puts players into the NFL.”
Gibson is not the only talented Georgia high school player to commit to the Bulldogs. The team also got a recent commitment from versatile offensive lineman Dontrell Glover. Glover also considered Tennessee and South Carolina, so the Bulldogs are keeping in-state talent away from other SEC programs.
Georgia football’s upcoming season
Georgia football, one of the finest teams in college football, did not make it to the CFP last season. Georgia was virtually eliminated from the playoffs after losing the SEC Championship to Alabama. With high hopes of contending for another SEC Championship, the Bulldogs are starting the 2024 campaign.
This offseason, coach Kirby Smart discovered some talent via the transfer portal. Trevor Etienne, a four-star transfer running back from Florida, is a strong prospect to head the Bulldogs’ rushing attack. Jaden Rashada, an Arizona State four-star quarterback, is another quarterback that Georgia has to contend with for the starting job. Rashada is well-known for suing the University of Florida for infringements on his likeness, name, and image.
August 31st, Georgia football’s season opener against Clemson is a crucial non-conference match. The Bulldogs’ nonconference schedule also includes games against Georgia Tech, Tennessee Tech, and UMass. Once more, the Bulldogs must defeat Alabama in order to claim a conference championship. In one of the most anticipated games of the year, the two teams square off on September 28. With Nick Saban’s retirement from Alabama, this year’s competition has even more flair.
Gibson will undoubtedly be following the Bulldogs this season as they start their comeback quest for a national title, alongside his future team. Under Smart, the Bulldogs took home CFP crowns in 2021 and 2022.
