Stefanos Tsitsipas and his brother rack up £18k in fines at French Open over three matches
Stefanos and Petros Tsitsipas have been punished with fines totalling £18,000 ($23,000) after crashing out of the French Open.
Stefanos reached the quarter-finals in both singles and doubles, teaming up with his younger brother for the latter.
And the pair received five code infractions – all for coaching – spanning three different matches, with each warning carrying a punishment.
Although coaching from the stands is now authorized, the Tsitsipas brothers still earned violations for engaging with a coach in a way that isn’t allowed. Stefanos and Petros both received a £1,900 ($2,500) fine for their second-round doubles match, when they beat reigning champions Austin Krajicek and Ivan Dodig.
The singles world No. 9 then earned a £6,300 ($8,000) penalty for another coaching violation during his quarter-final against Carlos Alcaraz, which he lost in straight sets. And both brothers received another charge for their third-round doubles match.
On that occasion, they were fined £3,900 ($5,000) each. They won the match but lost in the next round against eventual champions Mate Pavic and Marcelo Arevalo.
