Manhattan, KS – April 29, 2025 — The Kansas State Wildcats have made a major move in the transfer portal, landing former Penn State offensive lineman JB Nelson, a 6-foot-5, 325-pound veteran known for his toughness, versatility, and leadership. Nelson, who wore No. 55 for the Nittany Lions, brings instant credibility and experience to a Kansas State offensive line looking to fill a major void.
The commitment comes as the Wildcats seek to replace a key piece of their offensive front lost to transfer earlier this spring. Nelson is expected to step in immediately and contend for a starting role, likely at guard, but with the flexibility to shift outside to tackle if needed.

“We knew we needed a veteran presence on the line, and JB brings that in every way,” said a Kansas State staff member. “He’s battle-tested in the Big Ten, and his physicality fits exactly what we want to do up front.”
Nelson played in 31 games at Penn State, starting eight, and was recognized as an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2023. In 2024, he was a reliable anchor, allowing just two sacks over more than 770 snaps while appearing in all 16 games.
His move to Manhattan followed official visits to multiple Power Five programs, including Virginia Tech and Syracuse, but it was the Wildcats’ clear need and competitive upside that swayed Nelson’s decision.
He is expected to retain his No. 55 jersey at Kansas State—assuming it is available—a number synonymous with physical dominance in the trenches.
With Big 12 title hopes still alive, Nelson’s arrival could be the difference-maker in ensuring quarterback protection and reinforcing a strong running game.
