BREAKING: Yankees Secure $62 Million Closer Following Devin Williams’ Demotion

The New York Yankees have made a game-changing move in their bullpen, acquiring Jhoan Durán from the Minnesota Twins to replace Devin Williams as their closer. Manager Aaron Boone officially removed Williams from the closer role after his struggles, announcing that the Yankees were seeking a more reliable late-inning option.

“For right now, I’m going to take (Williams) out of that role,” Boone confirmed, per The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty.

With Williams out, the Yankees quickly turned to Durán, who has posted a 1.59 ERA and two saves so far this season. Despite the Twins’ overall performance, Durán has proven himself with 50 saves over the past two seasons, showing he can excel in the high-pressure role.

Durán’s addition comes after Williams’ inconsistent performances, and the Yankees are hopeful that Durán’s experience and ability to handle the ninth inning will stabilize the bullpen. Though Williams is not completely out of the picture, Boone has emphasized the need for a more consistent presence in the closer role.

“We want to do everything we can to get him right because we know how good he is and how valuable he’s going to be for us,” Boone said of Williams, acknowledging his struggles while maintaining confidence in his long-term potential.

In securing Durán, the Yankees have added a proven closer under team control for the next 2 1/2 years, ensuring a reliable option in the bullpen for the future. The Yankees had to give up a strong return to land the 27-year-old reliever, but the move is seen as crucial in their pursuit of postseason success.

With Durán now taking the reins, the Yankees have solidified their closer role and can now turn their attention to other key areas as they push toward the playoffs.
