Explosive Power Display, Late-Game Heartbreak, and a Pitching Masterclass: A Rollercoaster Night Across the Yankees’ Farm System That Had Everything from Moonshots to Meltdowns

The Yankees’ farm system was full of action on April 13th, headlined by a powerful performance from one of their top prospects.

Double-A Somerset Patriots came up just short in a wild 8-7 loss to Reading, but Spencer Jones stole the show with a standout day at the plate. The center fielder went 3-for-5, blasting two home runs with exit velocities of 109.9 and 105.1 mph, driving in four runs and swiping a base for good measure. Despite the loss, Jones showcased why he’s such an exciting talent. Jake Gatewood also delivered from the No. 8 spot, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple. Unfortunately, a late-inning collapse, including two homers surrendered by Danny Watson, spoiled the offensive explosion.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders swept a pair of seven-inning games against the Rochester Red Wings. In Game 1, Jorbit Vivas walked off the win with a sun-aided single, while Jose Rojas hit a game-tying homer. Tyler Matzek, on a rehab stint, looked sharp in his Triple-A debut. Game 2 featured a dominant one-hit shutout led by Sean Boyle, and a productive day for Vivas again (3-for-4, 3 RBI), T.J. Rumfield (3 RBI), and Ismael Munguia (2-for-2, double, stolen base). Jesus Rodriguez made a solid Triple-A debut behind the plate.

High-A Hudson Valley Renegades struggled in an 8-1 loss to Brooklyn. Jose Colmenares provided the only spark with a solo home run, while George Lombard Jr. collected two of the team’s four hits. Starter Bryce Cunningham allowed six runs over six innings in a tough outing.

Low-A Tampa Tarpons secured a 4-2 win over Fort Myers. Parks Harber carried the offense with a three-run homer and a triple, while Dillon Lewis hit his first home run of the year. On the mound, Gage Ziehl impressed in his professional debut, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings.

Across the board, there were encouraging performances at multiple levels, with Spencer Jones’ power surge standing out as the biggest highlight of the night.
