The Minnesota Timberwolves have officially added more firepower to their roster in a bold offseason move, acquiring sharpshooting forward Cam Johnson from the Brooklyn Nets in a trade finalized earlier this week, league sources confirm.
The deal, which had been quietly in the works since the February trade deadline, comes as the Timberwolves look to reshape their frontcourt following the departure of Karl-Anthony Towns and looming decisions on Naz Reid and Julius Randle.
Cam Johnson, 29, is coming off a career-best season, averaging 18.8 points per game while shooting 39.2% from beyond the arc. Known for his elite perimeter shooting and ability to stretch defenses, Johnson immediately adds a new dimension to the Timberwolvesā offense.

āWeāve been fans of Camās game for a long time,ā said Timberwolves President Tim Connelly in a statement. āHis shooting, size, and basketball IQ make him a perfect fit for the direction weāre heading.ā
In exchange, the Nets receive a package that includes future draft compensation and young talent from Minnesotaās rotation ā details of which are expected to be announced in the coming days.
This move signals Minnesotaās commitment to contending in the Western Conference with Anthony Edwards leading the charge and Johnson filling a vital stretch-four role that could eventually replace Reid or Randle ā both of whom have player options this summer.
āItās bittersweet leaving Brooklyn, but Iām excited for this next chapter,ā Johnson said via Instagram. āCanāt wait to suit up in front of Timberwolves fans.ā
With the Timberwolves narrowly missing a top-six playoff seed this season, the front office is clearly wasting no time in retooling the roster for a deeper postseason push in 2025ā26.
Cam Johnsonās arrival just made the Western Conference a little more dangerous.
