The Cincinnati Reds have signed infielder/outfielder Bryson Brigman to a minor league contract, assigning him to Triple-A Louisville.
At first glance, a 29-year-old signing might not seem particularly exciting, but Brigman’s recent performance is worth noting. Last season, while with the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Triple-A team, Brigman posted an impressive .334/.383/.474 line. His performance last year earned him recognition as the best hitter in Triple-A among players with 400 or more plate appearances.
Brigman, a 3rd-round pick by Seattle in 2016, was traded to the Miami Marlins two years later and later signed minor league deals with both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks. After a solid 2024, where he was unable to secure a contract with a major league club, Brigman briefly signed with the Caliente de Durango in the Mexican League but never played for them. Instead, the Reds swooped in and secured him for their organization.

Brigman brings a solid strikeout rate of 15.3%—ranking among the top 27 players in Triple-A in 2024—and has shown decent speed, though not elite. Despite his above-average speed, his stolen base totals are modest, with 20 steals only once in his career. While he’s not a power hitter, he did set personal bests in home runs (9) and extra-base hits (30) last season, though his average exit velocity sits at a modest 84.3 MPH.
Defensively, Brigman is versatile. He’s logged over 3,000 innings at shortstop and second base, but has also played in the outfield over the past two years.
Though it’s just a minor league signing, the Reds are bringing in a depth piece who can fill multiple roles and put up solid numbers in Triple-A.
