South Carolina’s Dawn Staley Adds Major Transfer in Nation’s Top Scorer to Replace Her Best

Dawn Staley and the South Carolina women’s basketball team have made a major move in the transfer portal, securing the nation’s leading scorer, Ta’Niya Latson, for the 2025-26 season. Latson, who played for Florida State, confirmed her decision on social media, expressing excitement about the move with the message, “Feelin’ cocky!”

Ta’Niya Latson,

The 5-foot-8 junior from Miami, Florida, had an outstanding season, averaging 25.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. A former five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American, Latson previously chose Florida State over offers from several top programs like Baylor, Georgia, and Texas.

Latson has a strong connection to South Carolina, as she and Gamecocks senior guard Raven Johnson were high school teammates at Westlake High School in Atlanta, where they helped lead their team to a GEICO Nationals title and two state championships.

With this addition, Staley and the Gamecocks are looking to make another strong push for the national title in the 2025-26 season.
