In a move to bolster their bullpen depth, the New York Yankees have re-signed veteran reliever Adam Ottavino after initially designating him for assignment to make room for Devin Williams. According to Andy Martino, Ottavino has agreed to a deal to rejoin the team, and he will head to Detroit as the Yankees continue their road trip.
Ottavino, who has made two scoreless appearances for the Yankees this season, will look to provide stability in the bullpen after spending last season with the New York Mets, where he posted a 4.34 ERA and was largely relegated to low-leverage innings. The Yankees are hopeful he can contribute more consistently as they continue their push for the playoffs.

In order to make room for Ottavino, the team has optioned left-hander Brent Headrick to Scranton, clearing a roster spot. Headrick had impressed in his brief time with the Yankees, striking out nine batters and allowing no earned runs in 5.1 innings.
However, Headrick’s recent usage in a two-inning appearance against the Pirates likely factored into the decision, as manager Aaron Boone seeks to keep his bullpen fresh for the upcoming series against the Detroit Tigers.
Ottavino is expected to be ready to pitch immediately upon joining the team, as the Yankees kick off a three-game series in Detroit tomorrow afternoon.
