CINCINNATI — After being scratched from Friday’s lineup due to hamstring tightness, Matt McLain is set to return to the Cincinnati Reds lineup on Saturday night as they look to break out of a four-game losing streak. The Reds are in desperate need of a win, having been shut out in three consecutive games and struggling to generate consistent offense.
McLain, who has been one of the bright spots for the Reds this season, is expected to serve as the designated hitter for the game against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field. While fans had hoped to see him back in his usual position at second base, McLain’s return is a crucial boost for a team in search of offensive production.
“We’re excited to have Matt back in the lineup,” said Reds manager Terry Francona. “He’s been an important part of our offense, and we’re hoping he can help ignite the bats. He’s been doing everything right, and we’re confident he’ll be ready to go.”
McLain, who has been one of the standout young players for Cincinnati this season, will slot into his familiar spot at the top of the order, batting second behind leadoff hitter TJ Friedl. Elly De La Cruz, the team’s star shortstop, will bat third, and the struggling Jeimer Candelario will return to third base, hoping to get back on track at the plate.

Despite McLain’s absence from the field, the Reds’ pitching staff has held up its end of the bargain, allowing just six runs over the past four games. Brady Singer, who shined in his Reds debut with a seven-inning, one-hit performance, will take the mound in game three of the series against the Brewers.
For the Reds to snap their skid, McLain’s return couldn’t come at a better time. As the team fights to stay in the playoff hunt, his presence in the lineup will be key to helping the Reds regain their offensive rhythm.
