The New York Yankees have made a major move in their infield this season, with Jazz Chisholm Jr. now serving as the team’s everyday second baseman. This marks a significant shift following the departure of Juan Soto and a change from Gleyber Torres, who was the team’s primary second baseman for over six years.
Torres, once an All-Star, struggled with consistency and defense in his later years with the Yankees, leading to the team’s decision to part ways with him after he signed with the Detroit Tigers this offseason. Despite efforts to move Torres to third base after acquiring Chisholm, Torres refused, which led to Chisholm playing out of position last season.
Now back at his natural position, Chisholm has been a standout in the early part of the 2025 season, hitting four home runs in just seven games and contributing solid defense. His performance has been a noticeable upgrade over Torres, providing much-needed power and lineup protection for slugger Aaron Judge, who has also had a historic start to the season.

Chisholm’s new “torpedo” bat has shown impressive results, boosting both his power and quality of contact. With the Yankees aiming for a World Series title, Chisholm’s hot start is a promising sign for the team. At just 27 years old and with two more years of team control, the best of Chisholm is still ahead, and the Yankees are hopeful that his impact will help propel them back to the Fall Classic.
