The New York Yankees kicked off the 2025 season with a strong 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. However, General Manager Brian Cashman and his staff recognize that roster adjustments will be necessary throughout the season to solidify the team’s World Series aspirations.
While fans eagerly anticipate potential reinforcements, new additions will require corresponding departures. Injuries will inevitably create roster openings, but several current Yankees are expected to be moved before the season concludes.
1. Oswaldo Cabrera
Third base remains one of the Yankees’ weakest spots in the lineup, and while Oswaldo Cabrera got the Opening Day start at the position, his offensive production doesn’t meet the standard for an everyday starter.

Cabrera’s versatility makes him a valuable utility player, but the Yankees are likely to pursue an upgrade at third base. If that happens, Cabrera could become a trade piece in a deal aimed at strengthening the infield.
2. Marcus Stroman
Initially viewed as a trade candidate in spring training, Marcus Stroman secured the No. 3 spot in the Yankees’ rotation largely due to injuries to Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil.

However, the Yankees’ long-term plans don’t seem to include him, especially given last year’s postseason decisions. If Stroman performs well in the first half of the season, the Yankees could use him as a trade asset to acquire a pitcher with greater upside.
3. Pablo Reyes
Pablo Reyes made the Opening Day roster after an impressive spring training, but as a 31-year-old journeyman with a career .248 batting average, his long-term role on the team is uncertain.

While he could stick around if he continues to perform well, the Yankees will likely seek a higher-impact bench player as the season progresses, making Reyes a candidate to be traded or released.
As the season unfolds, Cashman will be looking for ways to improve the roster, and these three players could find themselves on the move before the season ends.
