The New York Yankees have officially parted ways with starting pitcher Marcus Stroman, executing a midseason trade to shake up their rotation. The move comes after weeks of speculation, with the Yankees front office opting to trade Stroman for a higher-upside player as they look to reinforce their pitching staff.

Stroman, who signed a $37 million contract, started the season as the Yankees’ No. 3 pitcher after injuries to Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil reshuffled the rotation. However, with Luis Gil and Clarke Schmidt returning from injuries and the team’s ongoing efforts to acquire another elite starter, Stroman became the odd man out.
“The plan all along was for Stroman to boost his trade value early in the season, and he did just that,” an insider revealed. “With the Yankees looking for a long-term solution, this trade was inevitable.”
The Yankees reportedly made the move to secure additional rotation depth, with names like Sandy Alcántara and Michael King previously mentioned as potential replacements. While Stroman’s strong performances kept him in the rotation, the front office ultimately decided his future was elsewhere.
With this bold trade, the Yankees have signaled their intent to go all-in for a championship, ensuring their rotation is built for both the regular season and the playoffs.
