The New York Yankees have a glaring hole at third base, and while they could address it immediately, a trade closer to the deadline seems more likely. The team hopes its current roster can step up offensively, but acquiring a star third baseman remains the best long-term solution.
FanSided’s Rucker Haringey has predicted that the Yankees might trade away Oswaldo Cabrera, their Opening Day third baseman, to land a more established player at the position.
“A quick glance at the Yankees’ depth chart makes it clear that third base is the weakest link among their infielders,” Haringey wrote. “Oswaldo Cabrera got the Opening Day nod, but his bat lacks the power to be a strong offensive presence at the position.”
Haringey noted that the Yankees may need to include Cabrera in a package to acquire a superior third baseman. While no specific deal has been confirmed, New York has been linked to infielders such as Luis Arráez (Miami Marlins), Jorge Polanco (Seattle Mariners), and Brendan Rodgers (Colorado Rockies) as potential trade targets.

Cabrera’s versatility and team-friendly contract have made him an attractive trade piece, with multiple teams showing interest. However, the Yankees have been reluctant to part ways with him unless he is necessary to secure a significant upgrade at third base.
