The initial excitement surrounding Luka Doncic’s seamless transition into the Los Angeles Lakers lineup has dimmed as the team endures a rough patch. The star guard is well aware of the responsibility he and his teammate LeBron James must shoulder to turn things around.
Following the Lakers’ tough loss to the Orlando Magic on Monday night, Doncic reflected on their recent struggles and what needs to change.
“I think we got a little too comfortable,” Doncic admitted. “We can’t let that happen right now.”
“Me and Bron, we have to be the ones to lead,” he continued. “That’s on me. I need to step up, communicate better. I was vocal in the first half, but then my energy dipped, and I can’t let that happen.”

A key factor in the Lakers’ early dominance with Doncic was their improved defense, but that has faltered in recent games. They have allowed 118 points to both the Bucks and Magic, with a shocking 145-point outburst from the Bulls sandwiched in between.
It’s no surprise that Doncic points to himself and James as the catalysts for change, but both have been dealing with injuries—Doncic recovering from an ankle issue and James managing a groin injury. Their ability to stay healthy will be crucial for the Lakers’ playoff aspirations.
