Blackhawks Snap Losing Streak, Flyers’ Struggles Continue
The Chicago Blackhawks finally broke their slump, ending a seven-game losing streak with a victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s struggles deepened, as the team dropped its fifth straight game.
Chicago (21-41-9, 51 points) put together a strong effort at home to secure the win, while Philadelphia (28-35-9, 65 points) continued to struggle offensively, managing only a single goal in the defeat.
The Blackhawks’ offense, which had scored just 10 goals in their previous seven games, came to life early, with Ilya Mikheyev contributing a key goal. Chicago also got a much-needed boost from its special teams, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity while holding the Flyers in check.
“We needed this one,” Blackhawks coach Anders Sorensen said. “The guys battled hard, stuck to the game plan, and it paid off.”
Chicago goaltender Petr Mrazek turned in a solid performance, making crucial saves to keep the Flyers from gaining momentum.
Philadelphia, meanwhile, saw its offensive woes continue. Travis Konecny, who had recently ended a 13-game goal drought, was active but couldn’t find the net this time. Flyers head coach John Tortorella acknowledged the team’s struggles but remained focused on the bigger picture.
“We’re still growing as a team,” Tortorella said. “It’s frustrating, but we have to keep pushing and build on the positives.”
Goaltender Samuel Ersson got the start for Philadelphia but couldn’t hold off Chicago’s attack. The Flyers’ defense also struggled, allowing too many high-danger chances throughout the game.
With the loss, Philadelphia remains at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, while Chicago hopes to build momentum as it continues its five-game homestand.
