Five-Star Kentucky Recruit Enters Transfer Portal for Fourth Time, Set to Play Sixth College Basketball Season

Devin Askew is set to embark on his final season of college basketball, but his destination remains uncertain. The 23-year-old guard has entered the transfer portal for the fourth time, preparing to suit up for a new program in his sixth year of eligibility.

Askew, a former highly touted prospect from Los Angeles, was a five-star recruit in the Class of 2020. He began his college career at Kentucky, where he started as a freshman but struggled to make a significant impact. After one season, he transferred to Texas, only to see limited playing time due to the team’s depth at the guard position.

Seeking more opportunities, Askew moved to Cal, where injuries hampered his two-season stint. He later transferred to Long Beach State, where he finally hit his stride, averaging 18.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in his best collegiate season yet.

Despite speculation that he would finish his career at Long Beach, Askew has decided to transfer once again. Thanks to the extra year granted due to the pandemic and a medical hardship waiver, he still has one season of eligibility left. Now, he is looking for a new team to close out his long and winding college basketball journey.
