LeBron James was among the most excited about Geriot’s new role, taking to social media to share his enthusiastic congratulations. He posted on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after Iona officially announced the hiring.
Geriot, a longtime NBA assistant, spent nine years with the Cavaliers, steadily advancing before becoming an assistant coach in 2018. His time in Cleveland overlapped with James from 2015 to 2018, and it’s evident that LeBron holds great admiration for him.
As the 16th head coach in Iona’s program history, Geriot will aim to lead the Gaels back to the NCAA tournament, a milestone last reached in Rick Pitino’s final season with the team in 2022–23.
