The LSU Tigers completed their sixth Spring Practice of the offseason on Monday, with key position battles taking shape and new additions integrating into the team. One of the most anticipated arrivals was Northwestern transfer Josh Thompson, who officially joined LSU after completing his coursework.
Thompson’s arrival is significant as LSU looks to rebuild its offensive line following the departure of four veteran starters to the NFL. Expected to secure a guard position, the 6’5, 301-pound lineman—ranked as the No. 2 offensive lineman in the Big Ten—brings valuable experience to the Tigers.
DJ Pickett Making an Early Impact
With LSU’s secondary undergoing a transformation, five-star freshman DJ Pickett is emerging as a standout performer. Recruited by Corey Raymond, Pickett has positioned himself as a likely Week 1 starter. After Monday’s practice, transfer cornerback Mansoor Delane praised Pickett’s abilities, stating, “Whatever that Five-Star Plus is, that’s true. He’s as good as advertised.”
Defensive Standouts: Turner and Spears Shine
LSU’s secondary could see a revamped starting lineup in 2025, with both returning and new players competing for spots. On Monday, Michael Turner made an impact with an interception and a pass breakup while working with the second-team defense.

Sophomore safety Dashawn Spears also stood out, securing an interception against quarterback Michael Van Buren.
LSU’s Tight End Group Stands Out
One of the biggest takeaways from Spring Practice is the depth and talent in LSU’s tight end room. The team may utilize a significant amount of 12 personnel next season, with Trey’Dez Green continuing to rise as a key offensive weapon, both as a tight end and a wide receiver. Additionally, Bauer Sharp—who led Oklahoma in receiving last season—is expected to play a major role, particularly as a run blocker.
With Spring Practice progressing, LSU’s roster is beginning to take shape as the team builds toward the 2025 season.
