The Atlanta Braves are making moves ahead of Opening Day! The team has agreed to a minor-league deal with veteran catcher James McCann, per FanSided. The former All-Star and seasoned journeyman brings over 3,000 career at-bats and a solid .241 batting average with 92 home runs and 373 RBIs.
McCann, who last played for the Baltimore Orioles, is no stranger to the big stage. He earned All-Star honors with the White Sox in 2019 and has also suited up for the Mets and Tigers. Last season, he appeared in 65 games for Baltimore, notching eight home runs and 31 RBIs.
With Opening Day set for March 27, McCann will have a chance to compete for a roster spot. If he makes the big-league squad, he’ll earn $1 million, per ESPN. His arrival comes at a crucial time, as Braves catcher Sean Murphy is sidelined with a cracked rib, leaving Chadwick Tromp as the current starter.

The Braves are looking to bounce back from a disappointing Wild Card sweep last season and keep pace with the Mets, who made waves by signing superstar Juan Soto. Atlanta’s road to redemption begins March 27 against the San Diego Padres. But first, they’ll wrap up spring training with a showdown against the Yankees on Wednesday.
Stay tuned—McCann’s signing could play a key role in the Braves’ 2025 campaign! 🚨⚾
