ANOTHER SUCCESSOR: Boston Bruins prospect quickly turning heads in the Biggest Move

A newly acquired Boston Bruins prospect is making an immediate impact in the AHL, but it comes after missing out on a chance to stay in the NHL.

On March 7, the Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs completed a rare trade, with Boston sending defenseman Brandon Carlo to Toronto in exchange for Fraser Minten, a conditional first-round pick in the 2026 Draft, and a fourth-round selection in 2025. While the draft picks bolster Boston’s future, Minten could turn out to be the biggest prize of the deal.

Originally, Minten had hoped to remain in the NHL with the Bruins after playing 15 games for the Maple Leafs this season. However, Boston’s front office opted to send him down to the AHL to develop further rather than rush him into their lineup. The decision reportedly frustrated Minten, who believed he had done enough to earn an NHL spot, but he is now using the setback as motivation.

Since joining the Providence Bruins, Minten has quickly made his presence felt. Over the weekend, he recorded a natural hat trick in a 4-1 victory over the Springfield Thunderbirds, showcasing his quick shot release and scoring instincts. Despite his impressive performance, the Bruins are taking a patient approach with his development.

Boston has traditionally been cautious with young players, preferring to let them develop fully before making the jump to the NHL. With the AHL season still in full swing, Minten will have plenty of time to prove himself and work toward earning a call-up. If he continues at this pace, it won’t be long before he forces the Bruins to reconsider their decision.
