The Toronto Maple Leafs are in Detroit tonight to take on the Red Wings and one reporter has shared some unexpected news on the injured Anthony Stolarz.
On Friday afternoon, the Toronto Maple Leafs received some relieving news on the status of Anthony Stolarz, who appears to have avoided the worst after leaving Thursday’s game against Anaheim with a lower-body injury.
Nevertheless, with the uncertainty surrounding Stolarz, the Leafs opted to err on the side of caution and recall rookie goaltender Dennis Hildeby from the Toronto Marlies.
On Saturday morning, ahead of an evening meeting with the Red Wings, the media and fans were in for a bit of a surprise to learn that Stolarz actually travelled with the team to Detroit. Unfortunately, though, he has already been ruled out for both tonight and tomorrow.
Stolarz was not on the ice for the optional morning skate, leaving Hildeby to receive the bulk of the work. Meanwhile, Joseph Woll was absent, meaning that he projects to he the starter against the Red Wings, which always appeared to be the plan.
It’s a relief to know that Stolarz is not going to miss much time, even if he does sit out both ends of the back-to-back set this weekend.
In the meantime, it’s expected that Hildeby will receive tomorrow’s start against the Sabres, though nothing is confirmed just yet.
