The Las Vegas Aces’ Kelsey Plum emotionally opened up on her divorce from the ex-Baltimore Ravens’ Darren Waller as she described how the split “broke” her before adding she dealt with it by throwing herself into religion.
The couple married in March 2023 but only went on to survive 13 months of marriage before she filed for divorce in April 2024 in Clark County, following a subtle hint from Waller on social media that all was not well.
And as the 30-year-old point guard, a two-time WNBA champion and three-time All-Star, saw her relationship with the football player come to an end after approximately two years together, she said the public nature of the split left her struggling mentally.
“Going through a very public divorce is something I was not expecting,” Plum said to ESPN. “It felt like the rug got taken out from under me.
“I think people may look at me like, ‘Oh, she’s super tough.’ But this one really broke me. I deleted social media off my phone. I got a new phone, and don’t have very many people’s numbers.
“I turned off TV and just got into reading my Bible. I’ll just say that emotionally, I’ll be feeling this for a long time.”

Waller had supported Plum on her way to winning the 2022 and 2023 WNBA Finals with the Aces during his time with the Las Vegas Raiders, who he signed a three-year deal worth $51m with in September 2022 before going on to retire in 2024.
Their relationship was known for being intensely private, despite their status as two leading sports stars within Las Vegas, but it’s thought that they first met sometime in 2021 when Waller was spotted at the Michelob ULTRA Arena.
“I’m devastated. I walked through fire for that man,” Plum posted to Instagram at the time. “But now I see it’s time to go.
“God has given me an incredible life, and I’m truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends. One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day.”
