Roger Federer is intrigued by the prospect of going into business with Rafael Nadal.
Their friendship has further endeared them to fans, and their level of success along with their contests with Novak Djokovic helped them become some of the game’s greatest players.
With Roger Federer now retired and Rafael Nadal seemingly nearing the end of his playing days, the Swiss maestro is open to the idea of starting a new partnership with the Spaniard off the court.
What did Roger Federer say about his recent chat with Rafael Nadal?
Some of Federer’s finest moments on a tennis court have involved Nadal, as they contested some of the greatest matches in tennis history.
Their contrast in styles made for epic matches and their desire to be the best drove them to plenty of success within the game.
But with tennis no longer the main focus for both players, Federer said he is open to going into business with Nadal, and the eight-time Wimbledon winner was surprised by the number of investments he has, one of which is the Rafael Nadal Academy.
“I know he does a lot of investments, actually,” Federer told Bloomberg TV. “I was surprised at how much he was doing when I went to visit his academy in Majorca, which, by the way, is incredible, if you haven’t seen it yet, you should go and look at it, it’s a wonderful academy. I think it’s great what he is doing.
“He was telling me about a lot of investments he was doing off to the side, which is exciting to see, he is not only into forehands and backhands; he is also interested in investments. Who knows, maybe in the future we can do something together as well.”
Does Roger Federer think Rafael Nadal will play another season?
Nadal was part of Federer’s final match as they played doubles at the 2022 Laver Cup and lost to Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock.
The 38-year-old is still active but has played sparingly since the start of the 2023 season due to hip and abdominal injuries.
The former World number one last competed at the Paris Olympics, and Nadal was due to play in the Laver Cup before pulling out.
As his future in the sport remains unclear, Federer hopes Nadal can continue playing for at least one more season.
“He’s done everything for the sport. It would be phenomenal if he could go on for another season, but only Rafa himself can answer that,” Federer said via DPR.
