Layshia Clarendon received a message from LA Sparks player Cameron Brink following the team’s WNBA retirement announcement. Only 15 games were played by Brink this season. On her Instagram account, she reshared Clarendon’s retirement post.
“Over the past year, I have come to realize that everything has an end. My time as a basketball player is coming to an end. I am really happy with this decision since I have a strong sense in my mind, body, and spirit that it is time to move on. “Athletes are said to have two deaths,” Clarendon wrote as the post’s caption.
“Our professions and our actual demises. I can assure you that I have been grieving this loss intensely. I’ve been completely engrossed in this game,” they continued.
Brink shared one of the pictures Clarendon posted with a four-word caption.
“Love you lay forever!!! 💜💛,” Brink wrote.
Despite her limited playing time this season (15 games), Cameron Brink seemed to have established strong relationships with the LA Sparks. She finished each game with an impressive 2.3 blocks, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 7.5 points. She would have been a strong candidate for Rookie of the Year if she hadn’t been hurt.
Regarding Clarendon, they are retiring at a comparatively young age of 33. With the Sparks, the guard appeared in 21 games this season and averaged 4.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. In 284 games over their career, they have averaged 7.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists.
