College Football Fans Roasting Sherrone Moore Over Controversial Decision vs. Texas
Sherrone Moore first came to the Michigan Wolverines as a tight ends coach in 2018. He held that position until 2020 before becoming the offensive coordinator from 2021-23. He was named the head coach this offseason after Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL.
Fans questioned Moore’s tactics during the game against the Texas Longhorns. Moore decided to use quarterback Alex Orji during the game, but it did not satisfy Michigan fans.
Orji was used on a designed-run play, but Texas quickly snuffed it out, stopping the play from gaining any positive yardage. Michigan fans begged Moore to use Orji for more than just running plays or not use the quarterback.
Orji was a former four-star athlete in the 2022 class. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, he was the No. 9 athlete in his class.
Starting QB Davis Warren struggled during the first half against Texas, throwing one interception. Some Michigan fans called for Orji to replace Warren for the remainder of the game.
In 2018, Sherrone Moore joined the Michigan Wolverines as a tight ends coach for the first time. Before moving on to become the offensive coordinator from 2021–2023, he occupied that role until 2020. After Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL this summer, he was named the new head coach.
Moore’s strategies during the Texas Longhorns game were questioned by the crowd. The decision by Moore to start quarterback Alex Orji during the contest did not sit well with Michigan supporters.
Texas swiftly put an end to a planned-run play that featured Orji, preventing any beneficial yardage from being gained. Moore was beseeched by Michigan supporters to stop using the quarterback and employ Orji for something other than running plays.
Orji was a four-star athlete in the class of 2022. As per the On3 Industry Rankings, he ranked ninth among athletes in his respective class.
Davis Warren, the starting quarterback, had trouble versus Texas in the first half and threw one interception. A few Michigan supporters demanded that Orji take Warren’s place for the balance of the contest.
The calls to bench Warren became louder as the game went on.
“I’ve seen enough Davis Warren,” one fan said. “How you build the team for Alex Orji and just switch to Davis Warren with no outside threats is insane. 2 turnovers and the defense can’t hold. Embarrassing.”
Others just wanted to see how efficient an offense led by Orji would be.
“I refuse to believe an Alex Orji offense would be less productive than what we’re seeing now.” A Michigan fan exclaimed.
Michigan fans were going through it. The cries for Orji to see the field kept going.
“Let Alex Orji take over,” one fan said.
The notion that Warren was a better passer than Orji came into question after seeing the Michigan QB throughout the game.
One Michigan fan said, “I don’t think I can be convinced that Alex Orji is a worse thrower than Davis Warren.”
Michigan fans were surprised when Warren won the starting job over Orji. They could not believe that Warren looked better in preseason camp.
“Seriously, how bad was Alex Orji in camp to not be the starter,” they said
There were calls for Orji to start the second half after Michigan’s poor performance in the first two quarters. The Wolverines went into halftime down 24-3.
“Soooo Alex Orji time second half right????” a fan hoped.
Warren and Orji even received an NFL comparison. One fan posted a picture of New Orleans Saints quarterbacks Derek Carr and Taysom Hill, joking that the Michigan duo resembled them.
“Alex Orji and Davis Warren 1st half highlights,” they joked.
