Athletic director Warde Manuel revealed that the university was still negotiating a contract for head coach Sherrone Moore, who was promoted from offensive coordinator this past offseason, before one of Michigan’s biggest football games of the season against No. 3 Texas.
That caused some agitation among Wolverine fans, but Moore reiterated Manuel’s claim that the head coach and the school were dedicated to each other going forward in an interview with ESPN’s Pat McAfee today.
“They are committed to me, and I am committed to Michigan. In addition to being paid, I have a contract. Thus, Moore stated on the Pat McAfee Show, “We’re in a good place.”

In the ‘Conqu’ring Heroes’ interview with Jon Jansen, when Moore’s contract status was initially discussed, Manuel stated that there hasn’t been a problem between Moore and the university while the specifics of the contract are ironed out.
“Sherrone is aware of our dedication to him,” Manuel stated. We are aware of his dedication to us, and the assistant coaches have the same qualities. Neither they nor I have found it to be a problem, but we are working through it and should have them resolved very soon. The Memorandum of Understanding outlines nearly every detail of the deal and is a legally binding instrument that both them and we must abide by.
“It’s merely a lengthy form with more circumstances and facts. However, let me tell you that I’m thrilled with him and our staff and I’m looking forward to getting that signed and resolved.”
Last Saturday at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan defeated Fresno State 30-10, earning Moore his first victory as the program’s full-time head coach. In the five games that he has led the program into combat, including the four that he will coach Michigan in an acting capacity in 2023, Moore has led the team to victories. Moore and the Wolverines take on the Longhorns this week in another tough test after ranking victories over Penn State and Ohio State in the interim last year.
Moore remarked of taking over the program full-time, “It’s been great.” “I adore our coaches and my squad. We’ve all had a great time, and we’re going to keep trying to improve every day. We’re looking forward to this wonderful opportunity in this magnificent stadium tomorrow and are going to have a good time.”
At the Big House, No. 10 Michigan and No. 3 Texas will square off at Noon ET. Fox will broadcast the game. The Wolverines are trailing the Longhorns by seven points as of Friday afternoon.
