Due to an injury she suffered during warm-ups, Jamaican star Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce had to withdraw from the women’s 100 meters event just before her semifinal match.

After a delay entering the stadium, Fraser-Pryce sustained injuries, according to Jamaican chef de mission Ian Kelly, who spoke to Reuters. Kelly withheld information regarding the injuries.

Rumors circulated on the internet that Fraser-Pryce and American Sha’Carri Richardson had first been turned away from the warm-up area. Fraser-Pryce may be seen appearing to be explaining to someone in a social media video why she isn’t being allowed to enter the warm-up area.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Team Jamaica reacts during the Women's 100m during the Paris Olympics.
Fraser-Pryce remarks, “She said they changed the rule yesterday,” in the video. “How will you amend the regulation without disclosing it? Is it that all athletes who, for whatever reason, choose not to reside in the athlete village are unable to enter via the gate? Yesterday, we passed through security after coming via this gate, and everything was OK. They want us to travel all the way up to the point when everyone is leaving, which is absurd. Athletes that attempted to join the warm-up track through the incorrect gate were diverted and allowed to go, according to Paris 2024.

Fraser-Pryce did not qualify for the 200, therefore, the 100 would be her sole solo event at the 2024 Paris Games. (She placed second in the 200 meters in the London Olympics in 2012.) She could still compete in the 4 x 100 relay, the gold medal-winning team being the Jamaicans.
