Sherrone Moore provides Jack Tuttle injury update, addresses role when he returns
Head coach Sherman Moore provided an update on Michigan Wolverines quarterback Jack Tuttle, who is recovering from an injury. He also discussed Tuttle’s potential role upon return.
Admittedly, Moore refrained from making a firm commitment in his response. That covers Tuttle’s possible function as well as the amount of time it might take him to return fully. This follows the Wolverines’ offensive struggles in their first game against Fresno State.
Sherrone Moore stated, “He’s just working through some things and he’ll be back throwing here even more and be in a good place.” “Well, we’ll find out when he returns.”
Jack Tuttle was ruled out of the Fresno State game in Week 1. This occurred in the midst of a quarterback competition at Michigan, where Sherrone Moore did not select a starting quarterback until the day before the game, revealing Davis Warren. Tuttle was presumably getting looked at and could have played if healthy.
Regarding Tuttle’s injury, details regarding its cause were unknown when he was ruled out of Week 1. Moore, too, was evasive regarding the extent and type of the injuries.
Jack Tuttle was rated as a four-star recruit by the On3 Industry Rating as a high school recruit in the Class of 2018. After starting his career at Utah, he moved to Indiana for four seasons before moving to Michigan in time for the 2023 season. He continued to participate in six games the previous season, throwing 130 yards and a touchdown on 88.2 percent of his throws.
This occurs at a time when Michigan’s offensive line has had difficulty replacing quarterback JJ McCarthy. Ari Wasserman of On3 has questioned the Wolverines’ overall preseason expectations in light of these worries.
“I think we need to reevaluate our expectations for this team if Michigan doesn’t produce medium-to high-level quarterback play,” Wasserman stated. “We’re going to find out whether Michigan can generate or extract value from the quarterback position on Saturday against a very talented Texas squad. JJ McCarthy made plays that helped Michigan win the game last year even though he didn’t rack up the stats. At times, he was incredibly effective. Every game, he had one absolutely amazing play. The man was chosen from the top 15 picks. That is a significant decline. We’ll see where it goes, but I have a strong sense that Michigan’s quarterback situation worries me much.
Michigan and Sherrone Moore will need to move fast to settle on an offensive strategy that works for them. The Wolverines’ big matchup against Texas in Week 2 looks to be a challenging one.
