As a junior, the best prospect in the country passed for 3,329 yards, 41 touchdowns, and just three interceptions on his way to a 13-1 campaign in 2023. With just 25 carries at the end of the season, he also scored seven touchdowns on the ground.

As a senior, Underwood will be holding the football significantly more frequently if Friday’s 2024 season opening was any guide. The LSU recruit shone on the ground, rushing for two big touchdowns, the longest of which was a 55-yard touchdown run that put Belleville ahead with just over a minute remaining in the fourth quarter in a 35-28 victory over Clarkston.

The 6-foot-4 signal-caller had little trouble slipping past the Clarkston defense. On the Tigers’ opening drive, he scored a touchdown on a 48-yard rush to the end zone, but the play was nullified by a penalty. On the opening play from scrimmage of the second half, he cut and navigated his way to a 37-yard touchdown, which was his first running score.

Moreover, Underwood completed a shovel pass that resulted in a touchdown in the first quarter and a third-quarter 14-yard touchdown pass. Late in the game, Clarkston blew a 14-point lead, but the game-winning Underwood run stood as the testament.

Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings, said on X, “LSU QB commit Bryce Underwood has been a revelation on designed runs in his season opener.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Underwood is still the top overall prospect for the 2025 cycle and is only getting better as he gets ready to move to Baton Rouge the next year. He is the top recruiter in the Tigers’ top-three class and made his commitment to LSU on January 6. Underwood was listed by Power as one of the 25 most athletic football recruits in the 2025 cycle back in July.

In addition to having a big, broad build with snappy athleticism, Underwood is possibly the best arm prospect in the 2025 cycle. As one of the cycle’s youngest elite prospects, Underwood is still physically developing, the author said.

Belleville’s On3 Massey Ratings had them ranked as the fifth-best team in Michigan going into this week. The Tigers, who are now 1-0, will play Stevenson on the road the following week. On September 13, they will play their home opener versus Churchill.
