A team representative confirmed the details with Detroit News and Detroit Free Press on the USA TODAY Network. The Free Press is apparently looking into seven Michigan staff members from the 2023 team, including first-year coach Sherrone Moore, for potential NCAA rule infractions.

The Wolverines have 90 days to respond in writing to the notice of allegations, and the NCAA will now have 60 days to respond. The NCAA would next determine whether or not a hearing by the Committee on Infractions is required.

Former employee Connor Stalions was tasked with buying tickets to games against conference opponents and probable opponents in the College Football Playoffs in order to provide the Michigan Wolverines an advantage in contests.

Based on an early draft of the NOA that the outlet obtained at the beginning of August, ESPN reports that Moore could face a suspension and a show-cause fine for allegedly deleting a thread of 52 text messages with Stalions in October 2023—the same day that the alleged sign-stealing scandal emerged. According to ESPN, the draft indicated that Moore would be charged with a Level 2 crime for removing the texts, which were then found using “device imaging.”
