Paul Finebaum expresses concerns about Georgia’s defense
Despite Georgia’s preseason USA Today Coaches Poll ranking as the top team, Paul Finebaum isn’t a fan of the Bulldogs. In an interview with “GoJo and Golic,” the SEC Network analyst expressed his worries about Georgia’s prospects for the forthcoming season.
Finebaum expressed concern at their defense.”If you look back to that draft from two years ago, there were countless guys at the top of the list, some of them weren’t even that well-known. At the moment, they are without that. They have good players, after all. Do they possess the distinguishing qualities? That gives me a little concern.
According to ESPN, Georgia will only be returning 55% of its defense for the 2024 season. In the 2024 NFL Draft, the program lost defensive tackle Zion Logue, safety Javon Bullard, defensive back Tykee Smith, and cornerback Kamari Lassiter.
Not to add, a number of Georgia players signed as undrafted free agents with NFL teams. Additionally, Georgia lost 25 players—including defensive standouts like Marvin Jones Jr., AJ Harris,, and Jamon Dumas-Johnson—to the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Paul Finebaum worries about Georgia’s offensive
Finebaum is concerned about several aspects of the Georgia team besides defense.
According to Finebaum, “they get a little overvalued because they are the premier program right now.” “I have some reservations about both sides. Carson Beck is, without a doubt, one of the top quarterbacks in the game. How many more weapons do they have, though? They are replacing Brock Bowers, who brought them numerous victories on his own.
“And, I could argue, that Georgia would have defeated Alabama and we might not be talking about vacating Jim Harbaugh’s national championship if Brock Bowers had not been hurt in the Vanderbilt game, of all games.”
Finebaum may be concerned, but Georgia has an abundance of offensive talent. Through the NCAA Transfer Portal, Georgia acquired former Florida running back Trevor Etienne to the backfield. The Bulldogs have excellent wide receivers like Dominic Lovett back.
Finebaum’s worries may not be warranted, but Georgia’s schedule is indisputable. Even with all the skill in the world, the Bulldogs’ 2024 campaign won’t be simple.
Finebaum remarked, “Let’s face it, their schedule is brutal.” Not even the Texas game is involved. Nor is it the journey to Alabama. A trip to Ole Miss sounds good. a squad that has improved over the past 50 or 60 years. All three of those could be lost by them.
Georgia is eager to get started on its demanding timetable. Georgia’s season opener against Clemson is scheduled for August 31 at 12:00 ET. ABC will broadcast the game.
