The Kansas City Chiefs are now in their second week of training camp, gearing up for a third consecutive Super Bowl title run during the hot months of July and August.
Some players use this time to make a statement and impress the coaching staff, while others may hinder their chances for the 2024 season. With the first preseason game on Aug. 10, these next few practices will intensify.
During Wednesday’s practice, wide receiver Kadarius Toney appeared to suffer a lower-body injury. According to Nate Taylor of The Athletic, Toney was in a one-on-one drill against Chris Oladokun, attempting to catch a downfield pass. DJ Miller hit him during the attempt, and Toney seemed to injure his lower body. He was seen heading to the medical tent and later left on a cart.
This is particularly concerning given recent reports of Toney playing a significant role in the Chiefs’ offense during training camp. He was also shaken up in the first practice this summer after missing all of the 2023 training camp with a knee injury.
Hopefully, this injury is not serious, as Toney needs every rep to build trust for the upcoming season in September. His time in Kansas City has been challenging, with only 41 receptions for 340 yards and three touchdowns in 20 games. He has also faced benching, social media outbursts, and dropped passes.
This injury is just the latest hurdle in Toney’s tenure with the Chiefs.
