Disappointing: Bruins Miss Out on Top Free Agent
The Boston Bruins have made a lot of changes this summer, which makes people optimistic about the 2024–25 season. But since they lost Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, James van Riemsdyk, and Pat Maroon from last year’s team, it’s clear that they need more wingers.
In light of this, Daniel Sprong stood out as a top free agent target for the Bruins. That hope is gone now that they won’t be able to sign him. He would have given them another choice for their middle six and more secondary scoring.
Sprong finally found a new team after being a free agent for almost three weeks. He signed a one-year, $975,000 deal with the Vancouver Canucks.
Sprong, who is 27 years old, played for the Detroit Red Wings last season. The player, picked in the second round in 2015, mostly played in the bottom six and scored 18 goals and 43 points in 76 games. It goes without saying that he would have given the Bruins a nice boost in their top nine, and at that price, it was even better.
Now, if the Bruins hope to add some depth on the wing before the start of the season, they will need to explore other choices. Some possible bargain forwards who have yet to be signed include Tyler Johnson, Mike Hoffman, Alex Nylander, and Max Pacioretty.
