Breaking News: Sabres Sign Gritty Forward to Multi-Year Deal
Recently acquired forward Beck Malenstyn has agreed to a two-year, $2.7 million ($1.35 million AAV) contract with the Buffalo Sabres.
Malenstyn had an arbitration hearing scheduled, but this new agreement allows him and the Sabres to skip it. The only two RFAs still with the Sabres are Peyton Krebs and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.
The 26-year-old Malenstyn was purchased by the Sabres from the Washington Capitals last month in return for Cole Hutson, the 43rd choice in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. The product of Delta, British Columbia, is coming off a standout 2023–24 campaign in which he recorded a staggering 241 hits, six goals, 21 points, and 25 penalty minutes. He now deserves this rise and the multi-year contract as a result.
Malenstyn is anticipated to play a significant role in the Sabres’ cellar come playoff time. In addition to adding a great deal of bite and tenacity, he should also provide them with some respectable secondary offensive production.
All things considered, Malenstyn’s deal is fair, especially in light of his strong 2023–24 season. Though it will be interesting to watch how he plays going forward for the Sabres, there is optimism that he could advance even further in Buffalo.
