Emma Raducanu has been shown by Rafael Nadal how to win a doubles match. Together with Casper Ruud, the Spaniard competed and advanced to the Swedish Open semifinals.
However, Nadal pulled out of their match just hours before it was scheduled to happen in the final four.
The 38-year-old defeated Duje Ajdukovic earlier in the day to advance to the Bastad singles final.
He therefore freely and frank stated that he was pulling out of the doubles to maintain his fitness following a grueling period of injuries.
That’s understandable enough, and given how transparent his explanation was, no one can begrudge Nadal the opportunity to contend for an ATP singles championship in his first tournament back.
Raducanu might pick up some tips from the illustrious 22-time Grand Slam victor.
Shortly before their match at Wimbledon, she also pulled out of the mixed doubles competition against Andy Murray.
She most likely did not anticipate defeating the Greek star and moving on to the second week.
Judy, Andy Murray’s mother, was understandably incensed by her justification of a “injury,” posting on social media that she was “astonished.”
